How to Read a Supplement Label
The label usually tells you more than the marketing headline on the front of the package.
Supplement Facts
Look at serving size, servings per container, listed dietary ingredients, amount per serving and the % Daily Value when one has been established.
Other ingredients
The “other ingredients” list may include capsule materials, flavors, colors, binders or other non-dietary ingredients. If avoiding a particular ingredient matters to you, check this list directly.
Claims are not the same as facts
A broad wellness statement is not proof that a product treats a disease. FDA and FTC rules address different aspects of supplement labeling and advertising, and health-related advertising still needs appropriate substantiation.
