Quality
How to Choose a Quality Supplement
No single word on the front of a bottle proves quality. Look at several pieces of evidence together.
Start with the label
- Can you identify the ingredient and amount per serving?
- Is the serving size clear?
- Are other ingredients listed plainly?
- Does the marketing language match what the label actually tells you?
Look beyond front-of-bottle language
Words such as “premium,” “clean,” and “natural” may describe a product, but they are not substitutes for evidence about identity, manufacturing, testing or the exact product.
Ask what has actually been verified
If a company says a product is tested, look for what was tested, by whom, and what the test establishes. Testing identity or contaminants is different from proving a health benefit.
Check whether it fits you
Supplements can interact with medicines and may not be appropriate for every person. Individual medical questions, pregnancy, chronic disease and medication changes belong with a qualified clinician or pharmacist.
